Childhood

During their childhood, Prince Harry made several public appearances with his brother, Prince William.

In May 1995, Prince Harry accompanied his mother, father and brother to the 50th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) commemorations in Hyde Park, and on 19th August 1995, went with them to The Mall for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the Second World War.

Prince Harry was 12-years-old when Diana, Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash on 31st August 1997.  Prince Harry walked behind the cortege of their mother at her funeral in Westminster Abbey on 6th September 1997, accompanied by his brother, father, grandfather and uncle.

In November 1997 Prince Harry visited South Africa, where he was able to go on safari before joining The Prince of Wales, who was on an official visit there.

During the visit, Prince Harry met Nelson Mandela, went to a Spice Girls concert and visited Dukuduku Village School with his father.

In March 1998 Prince William and Prince Harry accompanied The Prince of Wales to Vancouver, Canada where they carried out brief public engagements and spent time skiing in Whistler.

In the summer of 1998, Prince Harry accompanied his father to France to watch England play in a World Cup football match.

On 2nd January 2000, Prince Harry and Prince William accompanied The Prince of Wales on a visit to Cardiff. They listened to hymns and readings in Welsh and English and joined 60,000 people for a special edition of the BBC’s Songs of Praise at the Millennium Stadium.
